Canon Information

Trigger Warnings: Death, war
History: Wookiepedia here!

Personality: Padme is a remarkable person. From a very young age, she knew she wanted to help people and serve her planet and that's exactly what she did. It takes a very particular kind of person to decide at the age of 14 that she's going to run for queen. She's driven and incredibly smart. Too smart for her own good, sometimes. When she became queen and Panaka gave her his idea for using handmaidens as bodyguards and body doubles, she instantly knew how to improve upon it and make it work even more to her benefit. She's as poised as she is smart. She put a great deal of thought into cultivating her persona for Queen Amidala, and it shows. It's also a lovely study in contrast. There's a moment in the book Queen's Peril when she meets her handmaid for the first time. She brings the girl into her bedroom so they can be alone and almost instantly slouches in her chair, takes her shoes off, and smiles at her. She lets the persona fall away to show Tsabin that she trusts her, even going so far as to tell her her real name. At such a young age, she knows how to use misdirection and what can only be described as the ultimate poker face to amazing effect. Another example of this was revealing her identity to Boss Nass in order to humble herself before him and forge an alliance.

Whether as a queen or a senator, Padme is never afraid to get her hands dirty. She is not the type to stand back and direct people as they risk their lives for her. She's more apt to throw herself into more danger than she can handle and risk everything to save her people. While other politicians might cower, she'll grab a blaster and show off how good a shot she is. The fact that she's been kidnapped, attacked, threatened, chased, poisoned, and experienced a number of other unsavory things, means she's got a damn good reason to know how to take care of herself. There might not always be a Jedi around to save the day, after all.

One would think that someone would have to have a pretty big ego to become queen of an entire planet. On the contrary. Padme didn't become queen because of the glory (though it is a pretty cool thing to know everyone's talking about you). She became queen to help people. She may have held that position, but she's no more important than any of the other citizens she represents. When on Coruscant pleading for help to save Naboo from the invading forces, she chose to return to Naboo because her "fate would be the same as theirs." She would not sit idly by while her people were dying. If they were going down, she would go down with them.

While she was a senator, she still often learned from and took advice from her people, or others on planets she visited. She knows she doesn't know everything and always strives to learn more and broaden her horizons wherever she goes. She also knows when to lean on other senators who have more experience than she and act as a support rather than the front fighter. She keeps an incredibly open mind about almost everything. She will never abide injustice or suffering, however, and if she sees it happening you can be damn sure she's going to do everything in her power to stop it.

She's not all poise and diplomacy, though. Beneath that carefully crafted exterior lies an incredibly sensitive woman. She loves life, which is why she fights so hard to preserve it. She's a romantic, though she does everything in her power to put duty first. While some have tried to win her heart, it takes someone who understands that she's married to democracy first to finally succeed. The fact that he is a handsome Jedi who she can be herself around helps things, too.

She's tenacious, stubborn, driven, humble, caring, intelligent, and courageous. I.e. if you get in her way, she will either find another way around, convince you why you're wrong, or pull out a blaster and make you move. She's a great judge of character, and finds the most diplomatic and witty ways to call people on their bullshit as she can. She has faith in the system, and faith in the honorable people who work with her to keep that system going.

Earth AU

Earth AU Name: Padme Amidala Naberrie
Earth AU Age: 27
Trigger Warnings: (For Earth AU information, if any)

History:

Padme was born in 1994 to Robert and Joy Naberrie in a suburb of Boston, MA. Robert sometimes struggled to support the family with his modest salary, but Padme and her older sister Samantha grew up comfortably. Their mother made sure they were raised well and always had compassion for those around them. She regularly traveled with her father to help those in need, working at soup kitchens and helping refugees who'd come to the state. It was this work that inspired her to commit her life to helping others.

Having two daughters and living so close to the city, Robert took it upon himself to teach the girls how to protect themselves. Samantha didn't care for this and went through the motions just to placate her father, but Padme took to it quite easily. He not only taught them how to use guns and how to fight. More importantly, he taught them when one should fight, and when one should talk.

As a child, Padme was a voracious reader. She could often be seen with a book in her hands, always learning things well beyond what they taught in school. An advanced student, she excelled in nearly all of her classes (math didn't come nearly as easily as history or languages). Her grades and general aptitude got her a full scholarship to a private High School. She threw herself into any organization that would allow her to help others and broaden her view of the world around her. She joined the Student Council, the Debate Team, Girl Scouts, and the Model UN. Whenever the opportunity arose for her to travel, she leapt at the chance. She visited Mexico and Spain with the Spanish Club, traveled to Costa Rica to build houses for the homeless, and traveled to New York City with the Model UN. During the summers, her school would bring students up to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. There she'd spend a week with her friends, swimming in Lake Winnipesaukee and enjoying the sunshine.

While at the Model UN Conference in New York, she was chosen to join a Crisis Committee and play the role of the ruler of a country being invaded by a foreign power. Her quick thinking and unorthodox solutions resulted in the Committee going completely off the rails.  She proposed the Chairperson be replaced entirely and essentially ran a palace coup to reclaim her assigned country while the Committee debated. It threw a wrench into the entire proceeding, but she emerged victorious.

After high school, she went to college at Boston University so she could continue to live with her family. While pursuing her Political Science degree, with a minor in humanities, she got a job working for the City of Boston. Never one to be idle, her spare time was spent volunteering, or working with one of the many organizations she joined. She was quickly voted in as a member of the Student Council. Even as a freshman, she was a loud voice for student rights. She pushed for changes that would benefit all students, pushing for equality and fairness in how all students were treated. When the university wanted to expand the campus police force to clamp down on protests that were dividing the students, she pushed for peaceful negotiations. She felt that mediation was the key to a resolution, not an army. Unfortunately, the university held firm and the police force was expanded. By the time she graduated, the school was more divided than ever and she knew in her heart that if they'd only followed the path she'd laid out things would have turned out differently.

She didn't lose hope in the system, though. As she pursued her Masters in Political Science, she continued to work with the Student Council to find a solution to the problems that still plagued the university. There was still so much unrest. Students were dropping out, and professors were even quitting or being forced out of their positions. Despite pushback from the administration, she still believed the system could work and a resolution could be found. But try as she might, it was not meant to be. A new Dean took over and unilaterally passed several policy changes that would change the university forever. When she finished her degree, she knew she needed a change.

She spent a couple of years working with the Peace Corps, traveling all over the world to help those in need. She became known for her willingness to take on any task and travel to locations many would be too afraid to visit. It helped open her eyes to people's struggles and strengthened her drive to help people when she returned home.

After a stay with her family when she returned from the Peace Corps, Padme left Boston behind and moved to New York for a fresh start. She learned about a job opening at the UN for an Assistant Public Information Officer, working with youth programs. Apparently she'd made an impression on people when she was in school, because the Public Information Officer remembered her antics during the conference. She assured him that she'd matured since that point and she would certainly not throw a coup to take his position. She got the job and has been quite happy working there since that point.

Personality: Padme is smart, witty, charismatic, and takes shit from no one. She knew from a young age that she wanted to help people and had laser-sighted focus on the path that would take her there. Seeing people in need and helping her father as he volunteered his time to help those less fortunate than they were, molded Padme into the caring woman she'd become. While some see the less fortunate and think 'someone should do something,' she saw them and thought 'I should do something.' Instead of taking the easy route and donating money or items, she chose to dedicate her time and energy to helping others.

In order to fix any problem, one needs the right tools to do so. This was why Padme threw herself into schoolwork and gaining any useful experience she could. This is also how she discovered she had a knack for leadership and public speaking. When she spoke, people tended to listen. She also got good at finding creative solutions for problems, sometimes thinking way outside the box.

She has a huge love for travel. Not all learning is done in a classroom, after all. She adores traveling to new places and, more importantly, meeting and learning from the people there. Unlike typical tourists, she doesn't spend all of her time at museums and monuments. She'd be just as happy driving to villages and sitting down with local residents to hear their stories. She also finds ways to help people in some way no matter where she goes. It can be pretty dangerous traveling by oneself, especially as a young woman. Padme doesn't let that stop her, though. She takes precautions when she needs to, often carrying some kind of weapon with her in more dangerous areas, but she tries to avoid fighting whenever possible. She's out in the world to promote peace. It's hard to do that with a gun in your hand... though sometimes that's unavoidable.

Buried deep under her charm and poise is a sensitive romantic heart. She uses that love to care for others and work towards a better future for all. Someday, maybe, she'll find someone to share that love with, but she's not actively seeking anyone out. She's got far too much to do to waste time sitting in a bar hoping the right guy will show up. If it happens, it happens, but it's definitely not top on her list of priorities. Her friends tease her for this, while they're off getting married and having kids and juggling their personal and work lives. But she won't let them shame her for having goals bigger than herself.

Physical description: Same except for her wardrobe and hairstyles.
